Overview

Mental health nursing, also known as psychiatric nursing, is a specialized field within the nursing profession. It focuses on the care of individuals with mental health conditions, psychological disorders, and emotional difficulties. Mental health nurses work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, community health centers, and private practices, and residential facilities. Mental health nurses play a crucial role in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions.

Department of Mental Health Nursing provides academic services and conduct research activities to promote mental health and to prevent mental health problems for individual, families and communities as well as continuously intervene and rehabilitate patients with psychiatric problems and their families. The department renders quality education to undergraduate, post basic undergraduate and post graduate students, assisting them in developing expertise and an in-depth mastery of the field.
The Department also committed to provide opportunities for professional growth, including a fully individualized orientation, support for participation in professional development activities and various in-service programs for the faculty members. Apart from the academic and clinical services, the department engages in community mental health services through screening, counseling and creating awareness in the public by health education. The department strives to censure the stigma towards mentally ill among the general population and also halt the misconceptions regarding mental health and mental illness.

Course Outcome
This course enable the students to recognize and appreciate the causes, symptoms and process of abnormal human behavior. It also introduces the student to the present day treatment modalities in the light of psychological, social and cultural factors affecting human behavior.
